The Subang Jaya Medical Centre Cancer and Radiosurgery Centre
is at the leading edge nationally and internationally for the treatment of cancer and oncological disorders. The Center uses the BrainLAB of Germany, which provides for superior treatment modalities such as precise dynamic conformal arc stereotactic radiotherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRT&SRS). The BrainLab assists the doctor in delivering a highly conformal and precise radiotherapy dosage according to shape and size of the lesion, while sparing normal surrounding tissues or critical organs.

In addition to utilizing the BrainLab for procedures such as stereotactic radiotherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery, the Cancer and Rediosurgery Centre uses advanced technologies like Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy.

The Cardiovascular Laboratory is equipped with sophisticated technology to both diagnose as well as treat ailments. Through interventional means, the heart can be observed using comprehensive imaging equipment to allow the clinicians to make a diagnosis and render the appropriate treatment that is necessary. The laboratory is made up of two catheterization labs, a control room where the procedures are monitored, a recovery room, and a room where angiographies are reviewed. Some treatment may immediately follow diagnosis in the cardiovascular laboratory itself while others may require surgery.

The Subang Fetitlity Clinic
at Subang Jaya Medical Centre is one of Asia’s most established facilities having over 20 years experience delivering babies using all major technologies: IVF, ICSI, ICSI with SSR methods.

The Stone Centre
at Subang Jaya Medical Centre uses Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (shown above) and Percutaneous Nephrolithotripsy to non-invasively crush and remove kidney stones. Over 10,000 successful ESWL and PCNL procedures have been done to-date.

SUBANG JAYA MEDICAL CENTRE SPECIALTY MEDICAL SERVICES INCLUDE:

The Subang Jaya Medical Centre Cancer and Radiosurgery Centre is a regional referral center for various treatment modalities to patients diagnosed with cancer and oncological disorders. The Center is at the leading edge nationally and internationally for the treatment of cancer and oncological disorders.

The Cancer and Radiosurgery Centre was the first clinical reference site in the SE Asia to utilize the BrainLAB of Germany, which provides for superior treatment modalities such as stereotactic radiotherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRT&SRS). The powerful BrainSCAN computer planning software and the BrainLAB's micro-Multileaf Collimator fully integrated with the Varian linear accelerator allows for precise dynamic conformal arc stereotactic radiotherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery. In addition, 3-D Conformal Radiation Therapy is routinely performed with Varian's 120-Multileaf Collimator. This means that highly conformal and precise radiotherapy dosage can be delivered to the lesion according to shape and size, sparing normal surrounding tissues or critical organs.

The Cancer and Radiosurgery Centre utilizes advanced technologies like Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy that allow for more sophisticated shaping of the dose distribution while Image Guided Radiotherapy enables 3-dimensional detection of tumor motion for precise dose delivery to moving targets. Using these advanced technologies, the center’s doctors are able to perform cutting-edge techniques like extracranial SRS or SRT and Image Guided Radiosurgery.

SJMC also offers Total Body Irradiation for both pediatric and adult patients undergoing bone marrow or stem cell transplant. It also has a conducive adult oncology daycare unit and a dedicated pediatric unit complete with parent-child play area. Additional services offered at the Cancer & Radiosurgery Centre include a Chemotherapy Daycare Unit, counseling sessions, support groups, diet counseling, resource center and a retail outlet selling products meant for cancer patients.

The SJMC Heart Centre, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and technology has achieved many medical firsts nationally, including the first drug-eluting stent inserted in an angioplasty in private practice. To-date, the SJMC Heart Centre has performed over thousands of angiograms and angioplasties with an excellent track record of success. In July 1985, the SJMC Heart Centre was the very first in the private sector to perform an Open-Heart surgery and also the first to perform a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG).

The SJMC Heart Centre serves as a one-stop regional treatment centre for cardiac patients with various medical needs. Conceptualized and planned with the specific needs of cardiac patients, this ensures that cardiac patients are given appropriate and timely patient care by the nursing staff and clinicians in a specialized setting. Many of the heart specialists at the SJMC Heart Centre are trained in UK, Australia and the U.S. The nurse-patient ratio is maintained at 1:1 (ventilated and ill cases) or 1:2 for post-Angioplasty and more stable patients requiring only monitoring. Among the most common interventional cardiology procedures performed at the Catheterization Lab are coronary angiography, angioplasty & stenting, balloon valvuloplasty, electrophysiological studies, radiofrequency ablation and pacemaker implantation.

The Coronary Care Unit (CCU) comprises ten individual intensive cardiac care suites that not only allow for privacy for the patient but also provide a conducive environment for the clinicians and nursing staff to care for and observe each patient. Every room is equipped for emergency response, resuscitation, and monitoring of the patient who requires very close observation. The CCU also has facilities to allow haemodialysis and imaging procedures to be performed in the patient's suite.

The Cardiac Ward (adjacent to the CCU) caters for the patient who does not require close monitoring but has the support of the CCU whenever necessary. The cardiac ward is equipped with a Nurse Call System to allow patients to contact the nurses easily.

The Subang Fertility Centre at Subang Jaya Medical Centre was started in 1985 and is one of the most established Assisted Reproduction Facilities in Asia Pacific. Over the last 20 years, the Subang Fertility Clinic has successfully delivered babies using technologies such as In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), and ICSI with frozen-thawed and freshly retrieved testicular sperm from Surgical Sperm Retrieval (SSR) methods. It also provides fertility treatment using recombinant drug technology.

Investigation of factors that contribute to sub-fertility can be identified through a detailed consultation with a fertility specialist. These include: a detailed physical examination of husband and wife; blood tests to assess hormone function and egg growth; assessment of husband's semen; and assessment of patency of fallopian tubes.

Some of the treatments available are: ovulation induction and monitoring of cycles, intra-uterine insemination (IUI), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), in-vitro fertilization, cryopreservation, surgical sperm retrieval by microepididymal sperm aspiration (MESA) and testicular sperm extraction (TESE) and assisted hatching.

The Stone Centre at Subang Jaya Medical Centre was established in 1988 and provides high-quality care for all aspects of kidney stone diseases. The Stone Centre offers Percutaneous Nephrolithotripsy (PCNL) for the removal of kidney and ureter stones without the need for traditional open surgery. PCNL is currently recognized as the safest and most effective method of removal of large and complicated upper tract stones. Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) is another procedure, without anaesthesia, by which acoustic shock waves generated outside the body, are focused onto a stone in the kidney or ureter causing the stone to fragment and eventually be passed out. It is the most common non-invasive therapeutic treatment for stones. All ureteric stones can be treated with either ESWL or ureteroscopic lithotripsy.

Success rates have been excellent in more than 10,000 ESWL and PCNL procedures done at the Stone Centre at Subang Jaya Medica Centre. Results of all modalities of treatment have been presented in world congresses and published in peer reviewed journals.
